Cemi in black stone. Features a Taino figure in a sitting position with linear decorations all over the body. The figures hands rest on the knees.

It features grainy eyes, mouth and glutes, as well linear decorations on the ribs and protruding circular desings on the spine. On the top it features a flat top. This cemi represents the Cohoba god, the flat top was comonly used to set different substances during ceremonies.

Cemis like this one adorned the areas where special rituals and ceremonies took place. A Cemi is a sculpture inhabited by a god, deity or ancestral spirit of the Taino people and used by the shamans to commute with the spirit for guidance. Cemi is also the term used to refer to the deity or ancestral spirit itself.
