Amazing Large Cemi Taino Light Brown stone Ceremonial ball with incredible brain-like design.
Beautiful Taino Game ball, it features curved "brain" like lines all over thus a more irregular design. The ball is about 5.5 inches in diameter. A very beautiful piece.
Game Balls like this one adorned the "Batéy" which were special areas where rituals, ceremonies and games took place, included a Ball game enjoyed by the whole tribe.
The true nature, history, and function of the batey is still contested. And the rules and way of playing the Taino Ball game is still being debated.
This item was obtained in Puerto Rico from a Taino antique collector.
